Beta Musicality: Orientation (KB15)

Tuesdays, 8pm -- 9:45pm

First Class: Tue, February 07, 2017
Room: Small Classroom

Orientation utilizes taiko's fundamentals (multiple drum tones, interlocking rhythms, and "kuchishoga" vocalizations) to create a compelling piece of percussive music. Designed to "orient" the audience to percussion and the techniques taiko uses to generate movement and direction in the music, this course provides the experience of playing interlocking rhythms in a real taiko ensemble.

- Prereq.: no experience required
- Repetition: high
- Focus level: specific (particular rhythms vs more general musical skills)
- Physical exertion: low to medium (physical warmup, low stance)
- Goal(s): intro to taiko, performance of Orientation on week 12 (PEAC Week), fun!
