Miyake Taiko Intensive

Miyake Taiko, formally called "Miyake-jima Kamitsuki Mikoshi Daiko" is a traditional drumming style that comes from Miyake-jima, which is an island of the Izu Island chain located 180 km south of Tokyo. During this intensive, students will review the basics and learn advanced techniques, Kiyari (traditional miyake taiko chant) and Kagura from the two sons of Akio Tsumura from Miyake Taiko Geino Doshikai.

Biography: 
Kazuhiro and Hidenori Tsumura along with their father and brother form the Miyake Taiko Geino Doshikai. They have dedicated their lives in spreading the folk tradition of Miyake taiko. Starting with KODO, hundreds of students have been taught by the Tsumura family, and due to the increasing popularity of the style, they have opened a Miyake Taiko Studio in Tokyo. Striving to “resonate sound through the listeners’ body”, the Tsumura family’s devotion to Miyake Taiko is endless.
