YOSUKE ODA (Kodo) Workshop 2/7 - Play Beyond your Limits

OVERVIEW: In Kodo, Yosuke is a very energetic performer on stage, and one of the players who really pushes himself to the limit. He is an excellent motivator, and encourages all taiko players to play every beat with your heart and soul. With Yosuke by your side, it will be difficult to give up easily, and you will be able to reach an energy point that goes beyond your limits.

GOAL: The goal is for experienced players to strengthen their physical and mental ability, level up on stage presence, and create a wider range of expressive performance.

WORKSHOP: Participants will be required to do a lot of strenuous exercises on the taiko. Simple, but repetitive patterns will build up to be physically challenging. Yosuke encourages participants to go beyond their limits, while playing together with the participants.

Biography:
Yosuke Oda first encountered taiko when he was a high school student. He entered the Kodo Apprentice Centre in 1999 and became a Kodo member in 2003. He pushes himself to the limits physically while passionately seeking the true sound of the drum. He is a prolific composer who has challenged himself recently to also create sensitive forms of expression such as Ake no Myojo, a new piece for female performers featuring taiko, dance, and song in the production, One Earth Tour: Mystery. He directed the "Earth Celebration 2013" Shiroyama Concert "Shukusai" and was chosen to portray the role of Susano'o in the Tokyo and Kyoto performances of "Amaterasu” that same year.
