This is my last week here at LATI/ATUS as an intern. I've had such a blast so far~
I realized that I didn't write about my thoughts on the Yamato concert! Basically, the show was absolutely inspiring and funny. Yamato has gotten the write mix of comedy incorporated into their taiko pieces. I would recommend everyone to see them perform at least once. They know how to make the audience enthusiastic to join in during audience participation. It was a joy to be able to watch their performance and feel their positive energy. Yamato will inspire you to have just as much energy as they do.
Another recent event that I attended was the Miyake workshop with Kazuhiro Tsumura. It was my very first time playing the Miyake style and I had a blast. Although, I must admit, my muscles are still burning from Saturday, it felt great to broaden my taiko style vocabulary. It was mind blowing to see Kazuhiro Tsumura demonstrate! His stance gets very low and the sound he produces when he hits the drum is so pure. I'm glad that I was able to participate in this workshop. It was also great to see so many other people play taiko so passionately and to be able to observe everyone's individual talent. Great job everyone who attended! We created a sign-up for a Miyake club that will be based here in LA so if you would like to join please let us know! Asano Taiko US is also selling hand made Miyake bachi that Kazuhiro brought from his home. Let us know if you would like to order or come in to purchase them.
This week we will be having our second Primer Week! Help us spread the word about our free taiko trial lessons. We had a great time at our last primer so we're forward to this next session.
And don't forget that next week Saturday, November 2, we will be having a Matsuri Battle!! It will be my first battle ever so I'm both nervous and excited to see how it goes. I hope I get to see many of you there! It'll be fun to see everyone's differently styled solos.
I'm sad to think that my internship is coming to end so soon but I am so grateful to have had this experience~
