"What is it about taiko that brings an audience at a loss of words? The raw sound and vibrations we feel from taiko. The chemistry amongst teammates that leaves an impression. These are the things I believe are special to taiko. This is only made possible from practicing over and over and over again, where our bodies are moving on their own rather than thinking while playing. Only then, the depth that touches our soul is obtained.
People who could produce amazing sound are extremely limited at LATI. This is something I want to communicate to every single taiko player -- practice more and more basics. While we may think the basics are boring, taiko does not produce good sound without proper fundamentals from the performers. Strike into the drum to produce good sound. Then we could move onto finding the right sound and the creative process. I want the taiko you play on to produce a good sound, as if it is screaming, and work on the ability to strike powerfully.
Goals: ATUS will work on providing the opportunities for UnitTwo to perform more regularly. My vision is for the group to continue working on the repertoire pieces and to achieve a greater depth of the pieces and performing at a higher standard than many taiko groups."
