Stretch

Katsugi Fundamentals
We practiced new rhythms last class and also practiced some more nuanced patterns while using the secondary grip that we learned. We also started stepping while playing these rhythms to prepare ourselves to move while playing the okedo drum.
Line one: Don su Don su Don su Don su / Do ko Do ko Do ko Do ko
Line two: Don Doko su Doko su Doko Doko Don
Using these two lines we tried walking with the okedo while playing. While we walk we can hold the okedo with our left hand and play with the right and once we feel comfortable you can play with both hands.

On a swing beat we tried play some triplet phrases.
One Blueberry Pie su
Two Pineapple pound cakes
Blueberry Pineapple Cheese cak -e

Movement
We tried moving and walking with the okedo and tried spinning to find the balance of the drum with our body. Rather than thinking of spinning on our central axis, we need to shift it over just a little but to our shoulder to prevent the okedo from swinging out of control. The goal is to be able to move and keep the okedo in place so you can play rhythms with two hands and not have to use the other hand to steady the drum.
