Aisatsu

- introductions (name + food you can eat for the rest of your life)

today's goals
- musical structure
-- M1 x2
-- M1 extended
-- 12 Simple
-- 3 Simple
-- R Complicated
- movement concept: from "arms only" to "torso leading" movement

stretch / warmup (see this as example)

stance, grip, strike feedback

review and feedback
- M1
- M1-extended
- 12 Simple
- 3 Simple
- R Complicated

combine all the parts into structure

"torso leading" concept
- what does it mean to "lead with the torso" in M1? torso rotates to help with big R hit of otsuri
-- torso rotates first, R hand stays in place
-- R pectoral muscle should feel stretched like a rubber band
-- arm releases (elbow bends) and strikes
- caveats
-- torso should rotate first but stop rotating before impact
-- head should stay in place (not rotate with torso or move side-to-side)

"torso leading" practice - provide feedback at each step
- step 1: good stance, arm up, proper "apex position" (palm up, elbow ready to bend toward taiko)
- step 2: rotate torso but leave R hand in place. Should feel stretch of R pectoral muscles.
- step 3: leaving torso in this position, release the arm, bend the elbow, and strike.
- step 4: practice on own
- step 5: add "dagada da" to complete Otsuri
- step 6: try in M1

practice time
- suggested topics: Use mirror to see if you're using torso properly. Try structure - which hits should incorporate torso leading?
