    • "g-" = left
      "d-" = right

KarD-2 Review

  • Sticking and choreo
  • Strike details

KarC

ga do ga da / ga go da ga / da go da da / da go da da (x4)

Sticking for Count 1
    L R L R
  • Start with both extended arms above the taiko. The first ga is played by tapping the rim at 12 o'clock.
  • The next do is played on the vertical axis of the taiko's face (the line between the 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock of the face). Play through towards the ground.
  • Play the next ga the same way as the first.
  • The last da is played by retracing it's own path; down-up.
Sticking for Count 2
    L L R L
  • Hit the ga at 12 o'clock and bring the arm toward you in preparation for the next hit.
  • Hit go and play through toward 10 o'clock.
  • Tap the 2 o'clock of the rim to play da.
  • Lastly, hit ga at 10 o'clock and pull the arm toward you again in preparation for the next hit.
Sticking for Count 3
    R L R R
  • Tap at 2 o'clock of the rim to play the first da.
  • Hit go in a diagonal path toward 10 o'clock. Play through so the bachi is pointing diagonally left at the ceiling.
  • As the left arm travels on it's path, hit the last 2 hits, da da, at the 2 o'clock rim.
Sticking for Count 4
    R L R R
  • Tap at 2 o'clock of the rim to play the first da.
  • Hit go in a diagonal path DOWN toward 4 o'clock. Play through so the bachi travels underneath your right arm and around to pass your face; "pretzeling".
  • As the left arm travels on it's path, hit the last 2 hits, da da, at the 2 o'clock rim.

KarD

ga do da ga / ga do ga da / ga do ga da / ga do ga da
gi do da ga / ga do ga da / ga do ga da / ga do ga da
(x2)
gi do da ga / ga do ga do / ga do ga do / ga do ga da

KarD 1.1 (Bar 1)
  • "Wipe" in Count 4: the first ga is hit at the rim and pulling the arm toward you. The last ga is hit away from you and passed the rim in preparation for the next hit.
  • End in a pedestal stance. As you hit the do in Count 4, bring your right leg close to the taiko stand. This will make hitting the next gi easier.
KarD 1.2 - 1.3 (Bars 2 & 3)
  • The very first hit is gi.
  • "Wipe" at end.
  • End in a pedestal stance during Count 4.
KarD 1.4 (Bar 4)
  • The very first hit is gi.
  • Keep the wide stance. DO NOT bring the right leg in toward the taiko because....
  • "Down, up" variation at end: instead of the "wipe", play Count 4 on the left side of the taiko. Exactly like how it's played in KarD2.
