Welcome

  • name, last week: inspired or tired?
  • warmup: single-file diagonal line facing mirror -- KarD

For Your Information

  • 4 counts = 1 bar
  • Each count will be separated by a " / "
      1-e-a-u / 2-e-a-u / 3-e-a-u / 4-e-a-u = 1 bar
  • Normal = normal speed (formerly referenced as "fast")
  • Half = half speed (formerly referenced as "medium")
  • Quarter = quarter speed (formerly referenced as "slow")
  • Kuchishoga
    • "g-" = left
      "d-" = right

KarD and KarD-2 Review

  • Sticking and choreo
    • Remember to move between wide stance and pedestal stance in KarD so you can play gi.
  • Strike details
  • KLarD and KLarD-2

KarB-4: First Half

ga do gi gi / da go ga chi

    REFERENCE VIDEO: KarB-4
    • First half kuchishoga: 00:00 - 00:06
    • First half play: 00:10 - 00:13
  • First half = Counts 1 & 2
  • Count 2: Hit da around 12 o'clock, bounce back up and move the arm diagonally up/away from you. Hit the next gon normally but ricochet up toward 12 o'clock to hit ga. Subsequently, bounce the left arm up to meet the right arm to play chi.
    • To emphasize the individualism of each arm, play the gon ga while the right arm travels on it's diagonal path.
    • Time the speed of the right arm so chi is played around head level.
    • As always, make the movements smooth and continuous.

KarC review

KLarC: Second Half Looped

da go da da / da go da ga / da go da da / da go da ga (x3)
da go da da / da go da ga / da go da da / da go da da

  • Play in wide stance, facing the taiko at roughly a 45° angle.
  • KLarC Second Half Looped is playing Counts 3 & 4 of KLarC multiple times (4 bars worth)
  • Playing Counts 3 & 4 twice = 1 bar
  • Counts 3 & 4 of KLarC is basically the same as Counts 3 & 4 of KarC, except the last hit is a left ga instead of a right da
    • When playing Count 4, hit the last two hits in a circle to untangle your arms. As the left arm travels under the right (after hitting gon), hit da at 2 o'clock of the rim and ricochet back up to travel in a path of a circle, countering the left arm. The left arm completes it's circle by hitting ga also around 2 o'clock. The right stays on it's circled path into the next count.
    • The circling right arm hits the first da around 3 o'clock, starting the next count.
  • The very last count is played the same way as KarC (da go da da) so it'll be easier to transition into KarC.

Ender: KLarC to the end

    KLarC + KarC + KarD + KarD-2
