Asano Taiko US 5th Anniversary Events!

July marks the fifth anniversary of Asano Taiko US. To celebrate, we're hosting a weekend of workshops, parties, and a concert! We'll have workshops by instructors from Japan and Los Angeles Taiko Institute, performances by local and international artists, as well as other special events.

Registration is limited to 80 participants: 40 players from the larger taiko community and 40 current LATI students.

UnitOne & Miyake Taiko show

UnitOne collaborates for the very first time with Miyakejima Geinou Doushikai. Miyakejima Geinou Doushikai (also known as Miyake Taiko) is a group based in Tokyo, Japan, known for performing a traditional style native to the island of Miyake. They have taught this form to the renowned taiko group KODO. Witness these two top skilled groups combine Japanese and American taiko in an exciting performance!

Isaku's Odaiko Course Starts Saturday 2/10

Course Dates: 2/10, 2/17, 2/24, 3/3, 3/17, 3/31, 4/7, 4/14, 4/21, 4/28

If you’ve had little or no experience playing the Odaiko, this course is the perfect opportunity for you. This course will cover the basic mechanics such as grip, stance, and stroke. The course will culminate in a performance of “Agari Yatai” composed by Yoichi Watanabe of Amanojaku.

Members of the renowned ensemble, Sandbox Percussion, present a workshop for the taiko community! The ensemble will be performing the Steve Reich piece "Music for Pieces of Wood" and will teach us a rhythm excerpt. They'll then use that pattern to explore tips for playing together as an ensemble.

Open to those who have attended the have previously taken workshops with Chieko.
This workshop will go beyond the initial teachings of Chieko's famed style, to start finding your own "style" of drumming through Hachijo Taiko.
