Shime Fundamentals
Grip: pinch with thumb and pointing finger; palms down to incorporate slap-type motion
Arm and Bachi Positioning: bachi is extension of arm, arm/elbow relaxing hovering over center of shime

Wrist Techniques
Bounce (“B”) — strike and bring back to position, pointing away from drum
Stop (“S”) — strike and catch rebound so bachi is pointing up (perpendicular to your arm)
B x8 -> S x4
- Right only, Left only, Both together

Upstroke ("U") — incorporate the "Stop" and tap lightly to play tsu to lift bachi back up
B x8 -> U x4
- Right only, Left only, Both together

Odaiko Fundamentals
Grip: Top Grip, no need to grip tight but just enough where bachi doesn’t slip out

Stance / Bachi Placement
Bachi shoulder width apart, elbow rests higher than shoulder so strike is upwards (vs downwards strike)
Don’t let bachi sway left & right; bachi resting in hands with gravity assisting with neutral rest
