LATI students, staff, and friends spent the final day of 2014 practicing. A few devoted taiko lovers in Winnipeg (hi Margaret and Liz!) participated from afar. All-told, 27 participants racked up a total of 73 studio hours... and had a ton of fun!

In celebration of the upcoming 2015 East Coast Taiko Conference, a group of us is making a practice pledge. Between now and Feb 13, 2015, amongst the five of us, we will practice 80 hours.
Each of us has picked a topic and created a goal and a plan using LATI's practice "Target" form. We'll be tracking our progress with LATI's "Practice Logs" and measuring only the time we're actually on the drum, doing concentrated practice.
If you'd like to join the pledge, let me know!
Here we go!
Announcing "Groups @US" in collaboration with LATI instructors!
(get it? atUS? ATUS? Asano Taiko US?)
Start organizing your dream group today!
Beginning January 2015, ATUS will feature student-organized groups of all types! Like-minded taiko friends design their ideal taiko group and meet once a week with access to the full range of Asano instruments. LATI staff provide as little or as much support as needed, to make every group a success.
LATI students, staff, and especially Kris Bergstrom, what an amazing feat!
Looking forward to more taiko at Ciclavia~
...for a series of wonderful, thoughtful, and fun workshops!
Thank you all participants for signing up and coming to LATI :)
We'll see you again very soon, and hope to have Suzuki-sensei back in LA.
We are very excited to announce that the great musician and dancer, Suzuki Kyosuke, will be coming to the Institute! Suzuki Sensei will give a two-day intensive on lion dance, for which we'll be preparing practice shishi gashira (lion masks) for each participant. The intensive will be 12 hours of instruction and an optional dinner with our favorite lion dancer! Suzuki Sensei will also be teaching two workshops on the music that accompanies the dance, called Kotobuki Jishi.
In preparation for my new term, I'll be teaching a week of free Try Taiko classes. In 60 fast-paced minutes, get a tour of the facility, learn about the school, see a demo by professional players, and try the amazing drums! RSVP appreciated.
If you're already a member of the LATI community and know someone who needs to try taiko, please pass this flyer along. Thanks to Katsuji for commissioning the new design!
