Dokokara solo drill
Sing 1 thru 8 while playing Dokokara ji
Alternate between playing ji and playing Don (1 thru 8)
Alternate solos for two-bars only using the downbeats (8 hits max per ji) -> play Don, tsu, ka, or ma
Explained the concept of we're solo-ing half-time of the jiuchi -> Wanted simple solo practice, but ended up being difficult
Alternate solos for two-bars with 16-counts, instead of 8 downbeat counts
Eventually want students to be able to count while soloing
Brief talk about soloing
Soloing is scary, and the thought of being the center of attention is frightening
But now ArigaTaiko wants to perform occasionally, I want to teach how fun it could be to express yourself through solos
Playing a simple solo is still an expression, so keep practicing solos!
Omiyage drill
Right arm pulls away from drum -> don't turn bachi to prep strike in advance
Right arm extends away after strike -> elbow, wrist, fingers, snap
Omiyage review
Review both patterns: Don Don SuDon & Don Don KaKoDoKo
Don Ya Sa -> make note of striking into the drum using body, reset is to bring body back towards the drum
