Course:
Date:
Wednesday, September 7, 2016 - 12:00 to 13:00
Room:
Large Classroom
Student should bring:
nagado bachi (usually larger diameter, harder "kashi" wood)
earplugs
Class syllabus:
small drum focus
video from Los Dokos practice revealed "awkward" playing and "strikes that look like questions"
took guesses at cause
- too close to drum (upper arms too close to body)
- too much shoulder movement (striking with whole, stiff arm vs bending more at the elbow)
- "bongo" wrist position vs french grip (and proper path of tips of bachi)
- moving confidently and smoothly between high and low stick positions
- smooth path of bachi rebound (too-tight grip causes bachi to pause partway along rebound)
