Introduction
Maracas Drill
Constant LH hits: ga gi gang gi
Adding RH hits sequentially, four bars each: do da da de
Once into regular Maracas, practice whole sequence with halfway/ending transitions
Objective: equal spacing between each hit, consistent LH hits (ga gi gang gi)
Notes: emphasize RH hits during transition (ga do gi da gang da gi DO GO DO...)
keep LH hits in straight line -> if having trouble, experiment with space between you and drum
Drill with everyone, by each row
Break/Own Practice/Masa Comments ~10min~
Murder Drill
Murder 1, Murder 2 (small, medium) -> analogy of circle above drum and using only that space
Murder 3, Murder 4 (large, biggest) -> circle above drum becomes bigger each round
Murder 1~4: experiment/realize how your Murder kata is growing and adjust
Whole sequence: Maracas, Murder 1&2, Maracas, Murder 3&4
Notes: tendency to speed up during ryotan section, also when going back into maracas
Ryotan Technique
Repeat ryotan section (rala da ralo don -> sore -> repeat)
Add beginning of phrase (ga da da ga rala da ralo don -> sore -> repeat)
Add following phrase (da ga gadadaga chi don chi don -> sore -> repeat)
Whole sequence: Maracas, Murder 1&2, Maracas, Murder 3&4
Notes: distinguish between LH hit coming up before ryotan section vs following section (da ga gadadaga)
ryotan section arms should not go behind your body
Own Practice/Masa Comments ~10min~
NOTE: Aki Imai and Caress Mauhili sat/participated through a portion of class -> studio rental double-booked and couldn't practice Jack Bazaar, and received Katsuji's approval for them to participate in class
