Dear Students of LATI,
A couple of weeks ago I decided to stop teaching at LATI. It was a really hard but important decision for me to make. I’m definitely going to miss the taiko but more than that I’m going to miss all of you weirdos.
I wanted to reminisce and share a few stories from my time at LATI, talk a little about my decision to quit, and share some advice for all of you (since I won’t be around to tell you what to do anymore).
Yuta's new weekly schedule of taiko classes have been decided on and here's a sneak peek!
Course information and sign ups online will be up shortly.
In the meantime, please direct any questions to Yuta (yuta@taiko.la).
Los Angeles Taiko Institute's newest teacher, Isaku Kageyama, is featured in a TaikoSource interview about his composition, Rei, commissioned by Asano Taiko US for performance by UnitOne. Check it out!
Isaku Kageyama 8-Week Odaiko Course!
The 8-Week Odaiko Course will cover:
1. Fundamental Odaiko technique for dynamic form and solid sound
2. Ensemble performance techniques for executing pieces in common contemporary taiko settings
3. Improvisational techniques for flexibility and musical expression.
Participants will learn two pieces - “Agari Yatai” by Yoichi Watanabe, and “Rhythm of Your Soul” by Isaku Kageyama. Participants can expect to gain a deeper understanding of both fundamental and applied Odaiko techniques.
Taiko Source has just published an audio interview with me about Jack Bazaar. Perfect timing just before the year-long Jack Bazaar 2016 course gets underway!
I'm very excited about my next term, beginning mid-February! In addition to fundamentals courses, I'm offering advanced naname choreography, Tally Ho!, and a four-part Jack Bazaar year-long course!
See all the courses at http://taiko.la/learn-taiko.
Here's to more taiko progress in 2016!
