Welcome
Space: 8-9-10
REFERENCE 1st IMAGE BELOW
-- Practice tempo. Dots are the down beats.
-- To hit GoChi (the 6th down beat), try directing the rebound from hitting the Go up to hit the right bachi
-- Widen stance between Da-Ji (14th down beat). This way you can really hit the following Don and be in a good stance for the next part.
Vivian's Exercise: Counting Repetitive Da-Ji
REFERENCE 2nd IMAGE BELOW ("Vivian's Exercise")
Every 4 Da-Ji is a beat.
This exercise is to practice x^ during the 13D Section
(1) Hit 4 beats (DaJiDaJiDaJiDaJi x4) counting out loud together. Make sure you start and end at the same time.
-- 4-beat counting: 1-&-2-&-3-&-4-&-
(2) Hit 4 beats, counting silently in your head. The goal is to have everyone play in sync.
(3) Count silently in your head throughout this part of the exercise
-- hit 4 beats together
-- no hits, but count silently for 4 beats
-- hit 1 beat together then count silently for 3 counts WITHOUT hits
-- hit 2 beats together then count silently for 2 counts WITHOUT hits
-- hit 3 beats together then count silently for 1 counts WITHOUT hits
-- hit 4 beats together
Things to Remember
-- Make sure your hits are continuously even: careful not to speed up or slow down, and make sure the spacing between hits are the same throughout.
-- If it's uncomfortable to hold your arms straight out for a long duration, try relaxing your arms a tad bit and holding the bachis at a slight angle toward you.
13D Section
REFERENCE 3rd IMAGE BELOW (written arrangement)
-- Practice from your 13d all the way through the section.
-- Implementing Vivian's exercise, count the x^ in your head. Everyone should be in sync and end at the same time.
-- If you have an odd x^ (anything that's not 4-beat x^), try counting the odd x^ first then count the 4-beat x^
Example: two 4-beat x^ then one 1-beat x^
counting: 1-&- 1-&-2-&-3-&-4-&- 1-&-2-&-3-&-4-&-
