nagado bachi (usually larger diameter, harder "kashi" wood)

Practice regular version
- Brief notes about technique/timing
Suga 4-8-16
- David plays downbeats half-time, students play upbeats in between
- Students split into two groups and switch between downbeats and upbeats with each play-through

Copycat
Straight ji, 4 beats
Practice patterns with varying degrees of challenging sticking and timing
Try offset copycat!
- David continually plays 4-beat phrases, while students try to follow 4 beats after. Stay cool, listen carefully, and don't lose the "1"!

Paradiddles
Learn Paradiddle, Diddlepara, Radiddlepa
Paradiddle Jam!
- Everyone practices two phrase solos (e.g., "Paradiddle, Paradiddle" or "Diddlepara, Radiddlepa")
- Go around the room trading paradiddle solos
