M-plus: If otsuri = don kara ka ka, play the next pattern in the sequence (e.g., M2 ~> M3)
M-minus: If otsuri = don su ka su, play the previous pattern in the sequence (e.g, M4~> M3)
M-plus/minus: Listen for the pattern and the otsuri to know which pattern to play next. =)

Solos (using Matsuri Daiko)
1 2 Don kara ka ka
- Every soloist must play Don kara ka ka
Start with one idea only on 1 and 2
Add ideas on 1 & 2 &

Ideas to unpack improvisation:
- Repetition
- Variation
- Articulation
- Dynamics

Scalability is important!
- The above ideas should be able to apply to two beats or to two four-bar phrases, etc.

Try playing two- and four-bar solos with shime jiuchi!
