Stretch
Be sure to stretch shoulders especially since we will be carrying the katsugi okedo for majority of the class. Also stretch your legs because of the amount of standing and bending of the legs. Please take time to stretch on your own before class, but we will do light stretching together.
Katsugi Fundamentals
Uchikomi: Welcome back to katsugi okedo class! It's been a little while and students have requested that we do more uchikomi to work on striking and especially the left handed strike. We are getting a nice sound with the right hand and now we need to even out our hands for even striking. For the left hand, we started thinking how to get a stronger snap by relaxing the wrist and allow it to follow as your forearm presses down having the wrist follow after and naturally snapping into the drum head. Once you get that feel, you can start to add more muscle to that strike to hit harder.
New Song: We also started learning bits and pieces of the new song that I am writing for Katsugi okedo class. Nothing is set in stone quite yet so if there are minor changes in the future I apologize but it's just the way I write music so bear with me. The goal is to have a portion ready to perform at Nagashi Somen on Sunday June 25. Please reference the picture of the first line of music that we learned. Stepping patterns may also be subject to change.
