Stretch
Be sure to stretch shoulders especially since we will be carrying the katsugi okedo for majority of the class. Also stretch your legs because of the amount of standing and bending of the legs. Please take time to stretch on your own before class, but we will do light stretching together.

Katsugi Fundamentals
The last session we spent a lot of time learning new material. I've been exploring new ways to practice Uchikomi without it feeling like Uchikomi. So I wanted to introduce some rhythm patterns that I've learned from Jodaiko to use a drill that involves playing alternating between two groups which allows for opportunities to connect with each other while still focusing on getting good strong hits. We also added a little bit of movement in some of the lines.

We also learned a simple rhythm that we used as a jiuchi to practice some improvisation. Soloing on the okedo is very different from soloing on a chu daiko where we can think about different ways we want to shape our solo. We might take a little time next week to talk about approaches that can be utilized not only for Katsugi but any solo.

Lastly we worked on the stepping patterns that we did the first class and made adjustments to the first line to allow for easier transitions to the flat stance. Also introduced the pina colada line and how its modified for this song. Will work on this next rehearsal.
