Stretch
Be sure to stretch shoulders especially since we will be carrying the katsugi okedo for majority of the class. Also stretch your legs because of the amount of standing and bending of the legs. Please take time to stretch on your own before class, but we will do light stretching together.
Katsugi Fundamentals
Uchikomi Practice: Worked on 4-8-16 with Right, Left and then Alternating. Keep working making sure our strikes are consistent and make good sound quality.
Odaiko Drill: We learned the last line of the odaiko drill. Now we will continue to play and alternate between As and Bs. We can try to start to up the tempo a little bit and also work on more connection and playing with each other.
Triplet Drill: To work up to triplet playing I wrote this drill so we can have stronger left hand hits which in the end will help us match the right hand hits when playing alternating hand triplet patterns. It's a lot of repetition but I think in the long run it gets us more comfortable with the left handed strike as it passes over the okedo. Lines can be tricky but try your best to hit accurately and in time and with the correct hand. Take a look at the photo below for reference.
Solo Time: We paired up and took a little time to practicing soloing with the okedo. We worked on just moving around and playing with each other and making a connection. This is a good drill or work on listening and responding to your partner, think about "how you can support the soloist".
Recapped and reviewed Pina Colada.
