Stretch
Be sure to stretch shoulders especially since we will be carrying the katsugi okedo for majority of the class. Also stretch your legs because of the amount of standing and bending of the legs. Please take time to stretch on your own before class, but we will do light stretching together.

Katsugi Fundamentals
Odaiko Drill: Played through the Odaiko Drill first reviewing the patterns and then remembering to do the cross overs! I forgot! I would like us to try to work a little bit more on playing with each other and connecting across the way while playing. This drill is a great opportunity to work on emoting while playing the taiko. Though performance is not the main focus of this course, the katsugi style lends itself to move and interact with each other so I'd like us to lean into that a little more. Break out of our shells! We did a couple of rounds with moving around while playing the drill. We've been improving on switching back and forth from our neutral playing position and the horizontal playing position. Keep working at it to make it seem as second nature as possible. Same with walking around with the okedo, keep practicing keeping it as controlled as possible and trying to feel the place where it balance without moving too much around on your thigh.
Uchikomi Work: Out left hands are still sounding a little weaker than our right hands so keep trying to relax the wrist and let the snap come from the reaction of pushing your forearm down.

New Song work: The stepping and playing is really coming together! I think we benefit from playing at faster tempos so that the groove really settles in. We practiced the pina coloda/don't like bananas line. The lines are listed in the image. Remember these lines aren't necessarily the final draft quite yet but I'm just trying to piece these lines together in some form so that we can have something prepared for nagashi somen.
