Battle in the Ring - Recap

Saturday’s Matsuri Battle at LA Boxing in Torrance was full of excitement, energy and taiko!
Definitely one of the most epic set-ups ever experienced - a single slant style taiko drum sat in the middle of the boxing ring with the ji-players, or rock-solids, positioned in the corner. Individuals and Taiko Teams duked it out in the ring, playing their hearts out and giving their all.
At the conclusion of each battle, the audience voted who they thought won by standing or kneeling.

Taiko New Year’s Resolution Project

Join us in making 2014 a year of great taiko! Here at LATI we're setting personal goals and sharing them with each other.
Join us by filling out this form with your resolution.
We'll post them at the facility along with ours and to keep you honest, we'll check in on July 1 and see how it's going. By sharing your aspirations, you'll also help LATI better know the community's needs.
Here's to a great taiko year!

Omiyage Class Week 1 - Student Perspective

My name is Derek Oye and I am currently a student at the Los Angeles Taiko Institute (LATI) hosted by Asano Taiko US. In order to improve my skills and connect with other taiko players, I decided to enroll in the 12-week course “Naname Patterns: Omiyage Chu-Part” on Sundays from 2-3:30pm (http://taiko.la/course/naname-patterns-omiyage-chu-part-sun).

2014 New Year's Taiko Resolution - Jen Baik

My goals this year are:

1) To continue focusing on small drum technique and would also like to focus on strengthening my left hand

2) Finish 30 Days to Shime in its entirety at least once

3) Get awesome at tsugagaki!! Who wants to practice? :)

4) Explore odd time and meters outside of 4/4

5) Start running again to build endurance to help improve my taiko and general well-being
