Renshuu Warmup
Play Renshuu as a canon
- Two groups, 8th note offset
- Two groups, 16th note offset
-- David is downbeat, rest of class is 16th offset (starting on e of 1)
-- Listen for "landmarks"/relationships to make this easier
-- Feel the "momentum" of the pulse
-- Practice lines 1-5 and talk about strategies for listening landmarks and how to begin to understand pulse relationship
Omiyage Intro Review
Practice solos
- Playing vs. performing
- Mistakes vs. opportunities
- Practicing to build comfort and confidence
* Need to determine solo structure and order
Review Intro
Run-through
General notes:
Intro
Roll timing during intro: Odaiko long, Shime medium, Oke short; Don't anticipate, wait to hear the previous group fade
Careful speeding up tempo; hitting early is "not an option" mentality (this got much better over the course of the practice)
Shime/oke players can play much quieter
Abi/Nathan -- maybe just play the second half of your fill unison: teke doko doko doko
Melody/Solos
As mentioned in class, we'll work on cleaning up A & B kata
Kakeai/Build
Make sure doko is played evenly in kakeai
Work on arranging build section (not getting too loud too soon & when twirls should happen)
A/Ending
We should define the arrangement of the As
