Rudiment 4: Lefty
--a- / --a- / --a- / --a-
--a- / --a- / --a- / 4---
go (L) hits on "a". The last hits are godo (LR)
- Bend your elbows
- Slightly turn torso so left hand can reach the apex of hitting reach/stance. Hold it there until it's time to hit then accelerate. Imagine the bachi is a rope hanging from the ceiling; you're pulling it so you can bring the whole ceiling down..
- Don't grip the bachi tight or else you will unintentionally hit the skin multiple times. Have a light grip so it's "floppy and free". Let it bounce after hit.
- Hit motions are like "chopping" the taiko's skin. Wrist should be twisted so back of hand it facing the ceiling. The palm is following a path perpendicular to the skin.
- Pull both hands back in preparation of hitting 4e. Keep right arm extended when go is hit (if anything, extend it farther).
Group Exercise
- Alternate playing Rudiment 4 as a class and one person (class, person 1, class, person 2, class, person 3....). After the last person plays, end exercise with class playing together.
RUDIMENTS 1-5
- Do the group alternating exercise for Rudiments 1-4 right after the other.
- Do the group alternating exercise for Rudiments 1-5 right after the other.
